Andorian General Confirms Attack
T'sel - Vulcan Information Directorate
4 June, 2157

Yesterday, rumors began to swirl of a Romulan attack against a colony world deep in Andorian space. Speculation was rampant, with many different worlds said to be the site of the attack and many amounts given for the number of dead. Today, at approximately 12:00PM Vulcan Universal Time, General Ujian of the Andorian Imperial Guard held a press conference and confirmed that an attack had taken place. Speculation came to an end as the general gave specifics on what had occurred.

Three Romulan warbirds are reported to have appeared near a small colony known as Dowchune. Dowchune is far from the front lines of the war, and this marks the deepest the Romulans have ever struck in Andorian space, which is heavily guarded and patrolled even in times of peace.

General Ujian stated that the Romulans attempted to use a strategy of orbital bombardment similar to that used in the devastating attacks upon Denobula and Earth's Proxima Colony, but also said that Dowchune, like many other CoP worlds, had recently been outfitted with countermeasures to disrupt the Romulan cloaking device, and that this allowed the colony to receive advance warning and prepare a defense.

"Three Coalition warships were stationed in the area, and they, together with the planetary defenses, were able to destroy the Romulan ships before the colony was too severely damaged," the general said.

The VID has learned that one of the ships stationed at Dowchune is a Vulcan cruiser, the P'kin. Its crew is reporting no deaths and only minor injuries.

Although small in population, Dowchune is home to a massive facility for the production of antideuterium, fuel used by ships throughout the CoP. This was stated as the likely reason for the attack, but by all reports, the facility received only minor damage. General Ujian stated that they "do not expect more than a brief work stoppage." The VID's own sources within the CoP militaries confirm there is little threat to the war effort.

A total of thirty-three people were killed in the attack: thirty-one Andorians and two Coridanites.

When asked how the Romulans could have penetrated so far into Andorian territory, General Ujian said that it is believed they slipped through during the incursion along the Telsong front that led to the attack on Vastahn. This is used as an explanation for the disparity between the number of invading ships originally reported and the number that actually struck the planet.

"We must consider the possibility that the entire assault on Vastahn was simply a diversion to draw attention away from their true purpose: the attack on Dowchune," the general said. The VID's military analysts do agree that, had the attack on Dowchune succeeded, it would have been a far more devastating blow than the loss of Vastahn.

The Andorian Imperial News Service is downplaying this attack as an ill-planned raid that ended in a decisive victory for the Coalition. The Andorian Free Information Group, a faction of reporters that has been filing pirate reports in defiance of the Andorian government, brings a different view, however, stressing the seriousness of General Ujian's demeanor and her lack of jubilation at the relative victory. No non-Andorians were present at the news conference.

Thus far, other Coalition governments have spoken little about the attack, but President Larsha of Denobula did offer a few brief comments, saying that the attack "demonstrates how clever and insidious an enemy the Romulans are, and how strong our resolve must be if we are to defeat them."
