BREAKING NEWS
Romulans Break Through Telsong Defenses

Charles Carmen - Earth News Network
17 May, 2157

Starfleet Command has just released word that an unknown number of Romulan ships have succeeded in breaking through Coalition defenses along the Telsong front and invading Andorian space. At last report, the Romulan forces were on course to Vastahn, an Andorian colony world that has served as a base for the ships fighting along the front.

In a brief press conference on the incursion, Lieutenant Commander Rodney McKinley, a member of Starfleet's press relations division, stated that Vastahn was being evacuated of civilians, though he was unable to comment on the methods used in the evacuation or how many of the nearly 30,000 Andorians on that world had currently escaped. McKinley was quick to point out there is no immediate threat to Earth or its colonies, saying, "Vastahn is a remote border outpost. The Romulan forces are nowhere near any other major CoP centers, and there is no risk to the vast majority of Coalition worlds, including all human worlds. There is no need for panic."

For the last several weeks, the front near the Telsong Nebula has been the focal point for the bloodiest conflict of the war thus far. Fighting began when the Coalition succeeded in destroying a hidden Romulan military base within the nebula. Since then, the Romulans have launched repeated retaliatory attacks, and the fighting has continued almost without cease.

Analysts have considered the Coaltion's defense of the front critical to its continued success in the war, and Lieutenant Commander McKinley was quick to state that they are already back up. "The front's defenses are once again in place, and no further incursions have been reported. The ships that did make it through are now cut off and will likely be defeated quickly."

McKinley went on to state that a number of CoP ships, both from the front and elsewhere, had been sent to intercept the Romulan ships, but he was unable to reveal their homeworlds, their number, or when they were expected to met up with the enemy.

The lieutenant commander confirmed that several CoP ships were lost during the initial assualt that broke the defenses, but he could offer no information on their specific indentities. Several Earth ships--including the Enterprise, the Columbia, and the Intrepid--are known to serve along the Telsong front, but it is not known if any were in the area at the time.

ENN will continue to bring you updates on this developing story as they arrive. Stay with us for all the latest information.
