I recently got the information that Geocities is shutting down.

As some of you may know, I have a website at Geocities, the Kes Website at: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Park/1964/

Since I'm can't afford paying for an account due to the financial crisis caused by the US banks and due to currency problems with a constantly sinking currency in my home country, I have to find another FREE web host and I have to find it quick.

Since I have 9,2 MB.s to move, I can't create an account where I'm only allowed to have four pages with pictures of my cat, dog, hamster or vegetable garden. I need more than that to keep up the good standard of my website.

I need to find a serious host which can provide the same high standard as Geocities once did, or the Kes Website will have to close down for good.

I'm grateful for all tips and information I can get.

Last year I went looking for a free website and ended up with a less than perfect host - not bad but not exactly reliable - so I ended up putting my html pages onto a series of interconnected CSS Blog pages in Blogger - the tabs are actually links between different Blogger accounts.

I could say that Blogger is so big it will probably be around forever but that's probably what they said about GeoCities

Good Luck!

Thanks a lot for nice replies and interesting suggestions!

I've been going through a lot of information recently and web hosts like Lycos/Angelfire, 110MB and www.webs.com seems very interesting.

As for webs, I know a person who have a site there who says that the web host is good but they have a dreadful upload tool. But it can be worth to check it out anyway.

I would be careful with Lycos/Angelfire - I imagine that they're going to follow Geocities into the great digital beyond in short order.

As opposed to Windows Live/Hotmail which gives you 5 GB, Yahoo and AOL with their unlimited storage, and Gmail (huzzah!) with +7 GB?

Then get the phlox away from Lycos! At least just give some other email clients a trial run. You'll be surprised by how awesome they are.

Also, having a competent rig doesn't make you with the times - the times these days are all about software services and digital mobility.

True. But hopefully, with a powerful enough rig and plenty of games, I can completely forget time even exists.

I did sign up for www.110mb.com which did seem to be the best option of those I got.

There were many positive reviews about them so I decided to try my luck there.

The new address for the Kes Website is: http://lynx677.110mb.com

I would also like to thank all nice and friendly people who have come up with suggestions. Your contributions have been very appreciated.
