Whoever wrote that article, has got some big points.
I'd love to see Abrams to take over ENT. As far as I know, Manny Coto is getting deeper and deeper into "24".
Then there's "Enterprise", and right ahead in the Star Trek timeline, right above ENT, there's the Earth-Romulus war, and the creation of the United Federation of Planets.
Mostly sure, Coto won't have the time to get into ENT again, as 24 gets a whole year of work to get it done.
So, Abrams would have a great challenge in his hands: to tell the story of two of the most important milestones on the Trek history: the war and the birth of the Federation. And he loves challnges, specially as this one.
And the base for that is already there: Enterprise. There's no need of a new show, at least not for now.
And Abrams is a TV guy, he knows the "how-to" of it all.

Interesting that bit about JJ Abrams saying he's not the reason for Trek's TV embargo. That he has no veto power over where a show might go. I do suspect however, if the 2009 movie is a hit, he and his production company will have the final say over a rival getting the greenlight.
