Chingay Parade is the largest national carnival extravaganza in Singapore organised annually by the Singapore Government. The word "Chingay Parade" is a direct translation from the Chinese word 妆艺大游行, which is literally mean costuming and arts grand roadshow (note: it has nothing to do with "gay" parade).

The Singapore Trekkies from www.StarTrek.sg was honored to participate in this year Chingay Parade 2009, on 30 & 31 Jan 2009, live telecast at the Singapore City Hall (see the pic below). Over 3,800 costumers from all over the world took part in this 2-day festive celebration. It was officially opened by the Singapore Prime Minister on 30 Jan 2009, and attended by the President of the Republic of Singapore on 31 Jan 2009!

Our Singapore Star Trek Fansite ( www.StarTrek.sg ) deployed 15 Star Trek costumers for the Chingay Parade 2009 and appeared live on our national TV as well as tens of thousands of audience on the street, dressed up in various starfleet uniforms, aliens latex masks, and fully equiped with phaser rifles, phasers, tricorders, communicators and other accessories. Our costumers include Borgs, Klingon, Ferengi, Cardassian, Talaxian, Trill, Bajoran, Vulcan, and even Maquis. Enjoy the pic here ...

It looks like everyone had a great time! The parade must be a major part of your club's calendar with a lot of preparation involved. You can all be justifiably proud of your turnout!

Welcome aboard TrekUnited, KelonaBattlestarOne (aka Kelowanasoverign in StarTrek.sg)!

KelonaBattlestarOne was the only trekkie who played 3 different Star Trek characters at our Chingay Parade 2009 ... he played vulcan Spock at the Chingay full-dress rehearsal ... and played a Cardassian at day 1 of the Parade ... and finally a Ferengi at day 2 of the Parade ... amazing, well done! :)

WOW!!

That is so cool!! You guys really rocked that parade!!

I love ALL the costumes and well..my...that was an impressive assortment of weapons for Singapore!!

My best friend lives in Singapore now. Her husband is a Navy guy and (She's Army, but that is a long story) and she moves to where he is stationed. She is VERY sad to have to move back to the states this summer. She absolutely loves it there..except for maybe the traffic!!

Welcome Aboard KelonaBattlestarOne!!! Mind if I call you KBO?? or maybe Kel?

You should post a message in the Welcome thread!! We love to greet new people!

AGAIN...that looked like a real party!! Whoo hoo!!

Not from Tonga, I'm afraid. The fact that the text of that page at www.viaggi.affari.to is in Italian should be enough to prove it ... I am the webmaster of that blog, and the sentence you mentioned is:

Quote

Premio ai piu' convinti: i ragazzi mascherati da personaggi di Star Trek, che partecipavano sotto l'egida del CDE wearable art public contingent for Chingay 2009.

which means:

Quote

Prize for the most dedicated group: the guys wearing Star Trek costumes, parading under the CDE Wearable Art Public Contingent for Chingay 2009

If you check my blog again today, you will find a picture of your group at taken at Chingay 2009.
