Ok I am still in the stone age using a desktop. I have a laptop but no cell phone use for net. Costs too much.

There is more than videos there. You can look at other things there.

It is getting to be millions aware of it and unknown to me thousands working for it. I got a few hundred aware of it myself.

I did post the forum to the facebook page. I am closing on 500 followers too. I just started to use facebook last spring. I been a busy beaver promoting the Venus Project.

It be nice to see a Star Trek world for real. We are already in the transistion. Technological unemployment is here to stay.

It is more than that though. I think Trek fans would understand we are moving into the next stage for society evolution. Not going to be an easy one by accounts.

Anyhow I meant to say hi and I saw this thread so I spoke up about the VP.

Looking over the forums at the end of the month is actually quite fun, finding things that I missed when they were first posted. I've had a couple of nice emails, too, from people whose work I've featured in the fan production listings. I think this could work out to be a very useful. It'll never take the place of TrekMovie.com but I don't have the same resources so I don't even try.

You're right that one of the targets of the newsletter is to re-ignite the interest members who might have been active in the past - good to see you around again, Barb! - but it is also to interest the type of person who might have registered once, lurked for a while then never came back. The newsletter will give them a "table of contents" to go direct to that one thread that might tickle their curiosity.

It is also opening other possibilities but we have to polish them up a little first before rolling them out onto the showroom floor!

Nice to see my friends here. I never went far just changed what I was doing. I went to try to form the next stage in humanity for real. We are at that point you know due to technology.

The news letter did remind me to take a peek and Cathy told me it was sold so I came. I liked what I saw so I posted. I guess After Cathy moves away from the gulf coast she will be along to TU as well.

The last few years the average number of visitors during one day/24 hours was about 50 persons. Two weeks ago, the average number of visitors rose to 70/80 persons a day, and since last week we even have 115 persons a day. Are we becoming popular again ? Did someone (of our members) mount a small promotion campaign ? Or is it the cooperation with our new owner (International Federation of Trek) that starts to work ?
But anyway, this is good news indeed...

It has been busier! Did you check to see if it is due to the fact that it is winter in our hemisphere? Cabin fever and all that?

I thought our little party in TF brought a few people out of the woodwork.

I think the Countdown Club should have a rally night of its own. It is slow over there and that makes me sad.

This is the thread, Butch!! Suggest away. TU is an evolving site. We have had a few incarnations already. For the most part, the basic ideology that must not change is that it remains friendly...not rabid-ness...unless otherwise forewarned....and no spamming. We are all fellow Trekkies in here, so whatever works, now is what works!! We made the move to embrace fan-fiction because there was a lot of interest in it!

Personally, I liked the game threads...but that has gone by the wayside.

As long as TF stays around...so will I...

I agree - the site could use some changes. Perhaps some of the oldest topics could be archived into Read-Only again? I suspect pruning like that would make things go a bit quicker.

Fan fic - maybe more group work/contests/prompts? And, truth be told, the software stinks for posting fan fic, as at least I can't find a good way to post from Word. I end up copying to notepad, then adding formatting tags, then posting. And even then, things are not great. It's rather discouraging, it's slow, and there are few comments/read counts are low.

I had no intentions of bad mouthing this site.... or the people who run it....
I was only following along, and for the most part numerous people have stated that they don't get many new comers anymore..
and then, I cam across "is the TU Site down" again on facebook, .. so I chimed in...

My computer is up to snuff and I have Time Warner's Road Runner Beep-Beep.. cable internet.. so at no time should I be waiting for 45 seconds or longer to get a connection...
but many times for this page, I am.... now.... United States Internet Speeds are slow compared to the rest of the world... if my assumption is correct...
and if that is the case... you got people out there who are waiting like 20 or 30 seconds and then probably moving on...

I could be all wet but... if I can't get on.... I usually pass for the day.. now take someone who is not a member.... how many times do we think they are going to try to get on the page......

So, I think if you want more people joining in, you have to speed up the page down load.....

to do that...

1-archive some of the older stuff...
this thread is how old????? now, take the icon and other signature codes that go out to other web pages to down load /link other images so the members have their icon.... from what ever pages, and if they do not exist, the code will eventually come back void... but that's a lot of time outs and code searching..

2-change the code......
anything that requires this site to go to another site to get an image... should be changed.. you become at the mercy of every web page that this site is connected to... you tube looks nice but a link with the name will look just as nice.. that spinning icon is pretty... let the people load those spinning gifs on this page and then link them to here..

this web site becomes only as fast as the slowest web site it is linked to...

so that's what I would suggest... from little ole me.. and I just joined so... it's really a newbie look on the site..

Actually, hosting the images here would create different timeout problems, not to mention use up space that eventually would need to be paid for if it exceeded quota. But I get what you mean re delays - this is the second time in as many days that I ended up double posting, and had to fix it.

TU never really had an issue with being too slow in the past. Might be time to compress or whatever old threads. Personally...I think you could boot all the peeps who signed up an never posted...Why bother?

What about content? Are we okay with what we are doing?

Sometimes I think we should pin a few more threads....like "How did you get into Star Trek?" or the one about why you chose your username....PLUS...I really feel as though the site needs a history of TU page...it could be comment free...maybe??

Okay...so the speed issue is pretty well fixed.

IMHO...and having thought about it for a while. I think that we should in fact archive a bunch of stuff and reboot some of the threads that are interesting or inspirational to members over the years. I don't go much of the rest of the forum because hey...I've posted there...I can only say the same thing so many times...and not risk being repetitive or completely contradict myself...

If that stuff was "fresh" and "new"...maybe the old timers would post again...and the new peeps won't feel like "Hey..it has all been said...not much to add."

when I joined, the first thing I did was go through all the forums and marked them "read"..
it was the only way to try and get a handle on what conversations were going on, and if any of them were of interest to me..

and I would agree... some topics are pretty old.... new fresh posting is probably in order.....
