Hard not to repeat the many good points made here, so I'll try not to :P

WOOO PATRICK STEWART!

Be it defence of his own work or of Trek, kudos to him for putting that ignorant individual back in her place. I'm going off to lobby the Government to make calling Trekkie's weird an act of discrimination. :P

I think that for a lot of us that's already covered under "creed" :D

For he who made them rests in his horizon."

Definitely should be. Maybe it's taking being a Trekkie too far but in all seriousness in the politically correct environment we live in (certainly in the UK anyway) you can't call anyone anything without them being able to sue you, least of all when you're actually treating them with contempt for their belief system (not that I do) or ideas. Haha Perhaps Patrick Stewart has struck a blow for Trekkie Human... or other Sentient Lifeforms Rights everywhere, little do we know it.

I'm going to bed now before I hurt myself :D

Way to go. I just saw this post today. I admire him for standing up for the show and its fan. It says a lot about him. Thank you.

Man, he just totally smashed her down, I love that guy. For some reason I am reminded of Megatokyo where Nanasawa Kimiko defends otaku on a radio show, I feel like I just want to become a mega fan for her because of that. Unfortunately, I am already such a huge Stewart fan that I don't know how to like him more.

Wait, I'm lost. We are considered "weird?" When did that happen??

I am thinking it is primarily due to Klingons, and secondly due to Vulcans. Although since the Vulcans were more fleshed out first, perhaps they are the most identifiable for the stereotypes (ears, finger salute) even though the Klingon culture became more significantly strange once ToS rolled around and they became more distinctive and not just looking like evil Superman anymore.

(looking confused)

:D

I was considered weird before I got into Star Trek. It just the word boring people use to describe people who are different.
"Sir! I protest! I am NOT a merry man!"

Good to see he has enough respect of his huge and famous career with Star Trek to defend his fans, he really is a good actor and the fact that hes still defending us after moving on shows he has some legitimate artistic integrity. This interviewer really needs to find herself a new job if all she can do is try to squeeze a "yeah, all those fans who like me are weird" out of Patrick Stewart.
