Well Vista SP 3 isn't a bad thing it took at lest 2 SP to get a lot of the issues that people were having with Xp to be solved.
Still I was hoping for more improvements to the OS than what I'm seeing.

W7 is just a fixed Vista. It's what we suppose to have two years ago.

I agree totally. It was another product rushed to market before they had it ready for retail. I'm still not going to buy it yet as my current machines are too slow and I haven't got the money to build a W7 machine right now.

That and I'm still waiting for a Linux based LCARS operating system :P

Yep, Windows 7 is what Vista should have been. I have used the beta and the RC version and liked it.

sevnson, I installed the beta version of W7 on a AMD 2800+ with 512mb ram. It ran ok with not much slowdown. Is your computer slower than that?

Whoo. The desktop, partially disassembled at the moment, is an AMD 1900+, I forget how much RAM. It was a state of the art gamer in 2002 :P The laptop that I use is a thinkpad with P3 500 MHz processer and 512 mb ram. The architecture is 1999, nuff said there :D but that is running fine on all but the most graphic heavy web content so I see no reason to upgrade yet. My next project I think will be building up one of the barebones laptops TigerDirect sells.

Your desktop would most likely have 256 or 512mb of ram. Minimum system requirements for windows 7 is here.

I'm running the RC on an old-ish Pentium 4 3.06GHz with 2GB RAM. It runs really well, but not much of a power user here. Web browsing, email, mostly online stuff. It's meant to be better with older hardware, so you'd probably be able to run it just fine.

Win7 is nice, much prettier than XP. I've never used Vista, so can't compare it. I can't say it's leaps-and-bounds better than XP, just nicer looking. $200-300 of nicer look? Probably not. But if I were to buy a new computer, I would definitely get it with 7.
