Still I was hoping for more improvements to the OS than what I'm seeing.

W7 is just a fixed Vista. It's what we suppose to have two years ago.

That and I'm still waiting for a Linux based LCARS operating system

So the combination is 1-2-3-4-5. That's the stupidest combination I've ever heard in my life! That's the kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage!- Dark Helmet; "Live free or die. sevnson, I installed the beta version of W7 on a AMD 2800+ with 512mb ram. It ran ok with not much slowdown. Is your computer slower than that?

Whoo. The desktop, partially disassembled at the moment, is an AMD 1900+, I forget how much RAM. It was a state of the art gamer in 2002

Your desktop would most likely have 256 or 512mb of ram. Minimum system requirements for windows 7 is here.

I'm running the RC on an old-ish Pentium 4 3.06GHz with 2GB RAM. It runs really well, but not much of a power user here. Web browsing, email, mostly online stuff. It's meant to be better with older hardware, so you'd probably be able to run it just fine.
Win7 is nice, much prettier than XP. I've never used Vista, so can't compare it. I can't say it's leaps-and-bounds better than XP, just nicer looking. $200-300 of nicer look? Probably not. But if I were to buy a new computer, I would definitely get it with 7.
