Okay well I hope there hasn't already been a thread like this, I didn't see one so I decided to start one. So what is your favorite Sci-Fi movie? Mine is The Black Hole, it came out in 1979 and was basically Disney's response to Star Wars but it totally pwns lol. It's also my all time favorite movie.

Okay, your turn.... :)

Beyond the obvious obsession with Star Trek, I'm a fanatic for Marvel comics, StarGate: SG-1 & Atlantis, Battle Star Galactica (the new one), Star Wars, LOTR, and pretty much anything scifi.

Professionally I'm interested in music education, educational psychology, and socio-ethnic studies (especially in musicology).

Beyond these you'll just have to ask me. ;)

^I remember watching that but don't remember much about the movie itself. For me I'd say my fav non-Trek sci-fi movie I'd have to say "The Fifth Element". I hate the whole "captain planet" aspect of it, but the rest of the "universe" felt very complete, it was a good storyline, it felt captivating, and the f/x and acting were all equal.

The Trek Movies are my favorites.
My favorite non-Trek Sci-Fi movie: 2001-A Space Odyssey.

Well I'd say Nemesis but if it has to be non-Trek... Probably the Matrix.

The Abyss, but only the director's cut. The theater release ending stinks.

In my case it would be Stargate (far better than the series) or Independence Day.

Love the Black Hole. Saw it when I was a kid, seemed totally cool then, now its a little cheesy - but good cheese. I thought it was crazy when that big fiery asteroid was rolling though the ship :)

THANK YOU!!! I swear I'm the only other person who thinks that way. I even had a film analysis teacher tell me that the Director's Cut was worse than the original. If you don't see the tidal wave, the movie doesn't make any sense!

It's not my favorite Sci-Fi film, though. I think I'll have to go with Blade Runner on that. Though there's a whole cluster right near the top: Forbidden Planet, Enemy Mine, Alien, The Matrix, Minority Report... not to mention The Abyss. I just friggin' love sci-fi.

^ The Matrix is pretty good. If a movie can invent a whole host of cliches and make me think of it every time I have deja vu (a friend told me she always yells, "The Matrix is changing!"), then it's pretty influential. And it was good, too.

I think that the movie black hole is an under rated movie, but I would have to say that my all time fav Sci-Fi movie would have to be the theatrical released version of Blade Runner. Follows closely by Dark Star.
