My favourite team is the Blue Jays but I also like the Tigers and sadly the Nats.

No kidding, half the fun of Baseball season is the RedSox/Yankee rivalry and all the verbal volleying that goes with it.

Cardinals and Yankees. The winniest two teams in all of Baseball history. 34 World Series Championships between the two of them with the Yankees having 26 and the Cards 8. The Yanks and Cards have the longest World Series rivarly dating back to 1926 and have been pitted against one another in the World Series 5 times. The most exciting of all their matchups was game seven in 1964 when Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinals pitched a no-hitter to give the Cardinals the Championship.

Greetings,

Oakland A's and Atlanta Braves for me.

I've followed the A's since the 70's...they had such great teams back then! Jackson, Bando, Hunter, Rudi, Campaneris, Blue, etc...fun to watch!

As for the Braves, when we got cable TV, the Braves were on Super Station TBS! Hundreds of games a year, as opposed to NBC's Game of the Week!!! Even if it was the pathetic, but loveable losers, Braves.

...nothing like watching someone trying to hit a Phil Niekro knuckleball ;)

Almost as much fun as watching Wakefield's knuckleball at work. They are a real pain to control though.. (two of my nephews pitched @ H.S. level, both pitched knuckleball. Only problem is the catchers couldn't handle it so the coaches wouldn't let them use it that much). Sox are now tied w/ the Cardinals for longest number of games w/o an error(12 games) and swept the NL's best team  WooHoo!

Red Sox and Mets here, this past week was interesting, but we (my husband and I) just enjoyed every good play, no matter who made it. I prefer the Sox, he prefers the Mets. It's all good, but if 1986 is repeated it might get interestin' around here. Of course, hubby will have to console me or I will have to console him. :naughty3dg:

Looks like the Sox will hang on to first place through the All Star break. Papelbon is closing. This kid's going to end up with the Cy Young as a rookie the way he's going. :D

Is there a reliever of the year award btw? Honestly I think Toronto's BJ Ryan would be in contention for an award. He made the all star team too. This guy is a freak. He has 24 saves in like 25 save attempts.

There really should be a reliever of the year award if there isn't one. I have Ryan on my fantasy team, and he's amazing.

They were pretty good last year, but this year they are amazing :D

The Jays won 3 out of 4 in their series with the Yankees recently to try to gain ground on the Red Soxs and the Wildcard. :D

Someone put a new curse on the Sox I swear. All those injuries and health scares, and now Lester is diagnosed with lymphoma :argh:

As much as it pains me to say this, my dad was a fan who brainwashed me and I brainwashed my son and we're all Chicago Cub fans. Needless to say, we were born to suffer, its our lot in life. My dad never saw a Cubs world series team as the only one possible in his lifetime was in '45 and he was serving in Europe. I have seen only these petty "division title" teams and will never see a world series team. I do not hope for my son, for that is foolish.

By the shore's of old Lake Michigan
Where the "hawk wind" blows so cold
An old Cub fan lay dying
In his midnight hour that tolled
Round his bed, his friends had all gathered
They knew his time was short
And on his head they put this bright blue cap
From his all-time favorite sport

He told them, "Its late and its getting dark in here"
And I know its time to go
But before I leave the line-up
Boys, there's just one thing I'd like to know

Do they still play the blues in Chicago
When baseball season rolls around
When the snow melts away,
Do the Cubbies still play
In their ivy-covered burial ground
When I was a boy they were my pride and joy
But now they only bring fatigue
To the home of the brave
The land of the free
And the doormat of the National League

Told his friends "You know the law of averages says:
Anything will happen that can"
That's what it says
"But the last time the Cubs won a National League pennant
Was the year we dropped the bomb on Japan"
The Cubs made me a criminal
Sent me down a wayward path
They stole my youth from me
(that's the truth)
I'd forsake my teachers
To go sit in the bleachers
In flagrant truancy

and then one thing led to another
and soon I'd discovered alcohol, gambling, dope
football, hockey, lacrosse, tennis
But what do you expect,
When you raise up a young boy's hopes
And then just crush 'em like so many paper beer cups.

Year after year after year
after year, after year, after year, after year, after year
'Til those hopes are just so much popcorn
for the pigeons beneath the 'L' tracks to eat
He said, "You know I'll never see Wrigley Field, anymore before my eternal rest
So if you have your pencils and your score cards ready,
and I'll read you my last request
He said, "Give me a double header funeral in Wrigley Field
On some sunny weekend day (no lights)
Have the organ play the "National Anthem"
and then a little 'na, na, na, na, hey hey, hey, Goodbye'
Make six bullpen pitchers, carry my coffin
and six ground keepers clear my path
Have the umpires bark me out at every base
In all their holy wrath
Its a beautiful day for a funeral, Hey Ernie lets play two!
Somebody go get Jack Brickhouse to come back,
and conduct just one more interview
Have the Cubbies run right out into the middle of the field,
Have Keith Moreland drop a routine fly
Give everybody two bags of peanuts and a frosty malt
And I'll be ready to die

Build a big fire on home plate out of your Louisville Sluggers baseball bats,
And toss my coffin in
Let my ashes blow in a beautiful snow
From the prevailing 30 mile an hour southwest wind
When my last remains go flying over the left-field wall
Will bid the bleacher bums adíeu
And I will come to my final resting place, out on Waveland Avenue

The dying man's friends told him to cut it out
They said stop it that's an awful shame
He whispered, "Don't Cry, we'll meet by and by near the Heavenly Hall of Fame
He said, "I've got season's tickets to watch the Angels now,
So its just what I'm going to do
He said, "but you the living, you're stuck here with the Cubs,
So its me that feels sorry for you!"

And he said, "Ahh Play, play that lonesome losers tune,
That's the one I like the best"
And he closed his eyes, and slipped away
What we got is the Dying Cub Fan's Last Request
And here it is

Do they still play the blues in Chicago
When baseball season rolls around
When the snow melts away,
Do the Cubbies still play
In their ivy-covered burial ground
When I was a boy they were my pride and joy
But now they only bring fatigue
To the home of the brave
The land of the free
And the doormat of the National League

(courtesy of Mr. Steve Goodman)
Other kids' games are all such a bore!
They've gotta have rules and they gotta keep score!
Calvinball is better by far!
It's never the same! It's always bizarre!
You don't need a team or a referee!
You know that it's great, 'cause it's named after me!"
—The Calvinball theme song

It about broke my heart to see/hear Jon Lester talking about it. He's only 22 and has a similar cancer to what my mother had. He started chemo today.
