Wasn't Data, the Science Officer for TNG? I know that he manned the Ops position but...

He certainly seemed to be the one advising Picard in that area... except he wore a Gold uniform... strange.

I voted for Spock anyhow... :vulcan:

He definitly was. Plus he had more information about everything in his memory than any living organism, he could memorise a lot more than normal people. If he wasn't ... Well, he was multitalented. Being an android really rocked for him, he was almost as valuable as the ship itself ;)

He would be ideal for most situations, maybe even better than worf at tactical or security duty...

He didn't wear blue. He was an operations officer, like Harry Kim from Voyager.

Spock, without a moment's doubt for me. But T'Pol comes a close second.

I voted T'Pol. Close 2nd is Spock.

You're right about him being operations officer and not wearing blue... but i think he had the double duty of science officer as well ( being an android and not needing sleep helped there)...

voted for T'Pol and Jadzia came second...
Data worked in operations, I believe he was also chief of that department, since he was the second officer. That said it always appeared obvious to me that he was acting a LOT as a science officer. Never understood why TNG lacked one...

Well - that kind of proves my point about Data being involved in scientific study aboard Enterprise...

Furthermore whenever there was any research to be done or answeres to be found they most often sent Data along with Geordi and / or Dr. Crusher (if the problem was of medical nature) to find the solution.

Data also made the breakoff shot that disabled the Borg cube's tractor beam with his rapidly changing phazer frequencies that caught the Borg off guard...

Well, enough of this, i know i was WAY off topic here, we now return to original thread at your discretion...

Hmm... i don't think it would be logical for a doctor to also be a science officer... With all the injuries one might get on the line of duty i can't immagine medical personel to leave the patients just to explore some new type of a weapon, flower or something like that... There must have been specialised team of science officers that sometimes worked together with medical personell to find an occasional cure for some exotic disease though.

Well remember that medical was referred to as "Life Sciences" by Kirk when he was asking for departmental reports from McCoy. So in a sense, they ARE all in the "sciences" bracket. Now the security and engineering wearing the same color is another story, but again, I digress....

It would have to be Jadzia without a doubt. Beauty (without getting all naked ala T'Pol), brains (without having to supress your emotions like Spock) and a strong attitude (let's face it, Samantha Wildman WAS kinda boring). What other choice is there?
